Umeglow is a boutique cosmetics studio specializing in brows, lashes, and skin care. As part of a move to a larger location in Vancouver’s Chinatown, the owner engaged Studio Roslyn to design an inclusive space and a new visual identity that sets the business apart from other trend-focused salons.

Our team found inspiration in 1980s postmodern minimalism for both the interiors and the brand – an aesthetic that is bold, colourful, sleek, and refined. The Umeglow wordmark is set in a narrow, high-contrast Didone font reminiscent of ‘80s fashion mastheads and cosmetic advertisements. Brand materials such as bright yellow tote bags and silver-embossed business cards express an energetic yet sophisticated tone. The signage is hand-painted, including a large logo with a silver-leaf drop shadow on the reception mirror, and a welcome message in Cantonese on the front door to pay respect to historic Chinatown businesses.
