Housed in a structure dating back to the late 1880s, Bricklayer Brewing is a new brewery where friends and neighbours can build community over fresh, forward-thinking beer. Approached to complete the interior design of the brewery and tasting lounge, Studio Roslyn was tasked with a simple, straight-forward concept: design a gathering place for friends and strangers that looks forward while nodding to the past.

To accomplish this, we wove together family references and conceptual underpinnings to develop a space that is warm, approachable and inviting, while honouring the heritage of the building and region. In order to preserve the historical context of the space, we salvaged key materials from the restoration process including the original shiplap ceiling boards and decorative bricks, which were reused as partitions and table bases in the tasting room. With 50 seats inside and another 40 outside, the space is divided into zones designed to suit the dynamics of different groups and social engagement levels.

Bricklayer Brewing is located on historic South Yale Road in downtown Chilliwack, BC.
